Greetings dearest readers and music fans worldwide. Let’s welcome Coma Beach back to our blog. Coma Beach is a punk rock/alternative rock band from Würzburg, Germany. The band was formed by singer B. Kafka, guitarist Captain A. Fear, and drummer M. Lecter, with
bassist U. Terror and rhythm guitarist M. Blunt completing the lineup. I fell in love with the band after hearing their EP “I Won’t Listen”. The band continues to pick up steam with a new EP called “A Madman’s Dream/Mind Descending”. The five-song EP was released on 8th August, let’s dive into the details of this EP
The first song on the EP is called “A Madman’s Dream”. When the song starts you are met with a raw and intense vocal performance soon after, a very exciting instrumentation is put together to capture your attention. The song introduces listeners to an unidentified antihero who is attacked by seemingly irresistible forces that are much beyond his comprehension and control in a pivotal chapter that depicts his further spiral into lunacy. (“Something’s crawling closer, somehow irrepressible, trying to overdose ya”). The song features a guitar solo that is extremely incredible. Aside from the instrumentation, the vocal performance is very captivating and its urgency and persistence are very delightful. With this song, listeners are given a glimpse of the direction of this EP
Next up is the song “Mind Descending”. The song had a very high energy and exciting intro. The story of the antihero continues as the character struggles With his fragile mental condition quickly collapsing, the anonymous antihero sets off an unstoppable downward spiral towards madness. (“I’m going insane, all the time, all the time, I’m going insane”). The repetition of the lyrics emphasizes the message in the song which is the affliction of the unnamed anti-hero. There is an electric guitar solo in the song which is to die for and I can guarantee that this song will take you on the wildest musical journey you’ve ever been on
“Absurd” is the name of the next song. With this song the tone of the album shifts and it pivots to a slower melody. The song continues the story of this unnamed anti-hero. Our nameless antihero, having let out a fierce cry of agony and pain, returns to a defiant state of despair in the face of society’s shallowness and hypocrisy(“since your life is so absurd”)and he calls the culprits out (“I don’t care about what you think, and your loathsome lessons stink”). The vocal performance and arrangement of the musical instruments match the story in the song. Overall the song is an emotive performance that calls out and shames hypocritical behavior
Next is “I won’t listen”. The intro of this song is also a bit drawn back and slow. The story continues as the nameless antihero makes no secret of his sardonic contempt for soul-crushing conformity and social expectations(“So why don’t you shut this hole in your face and disappear without a trace”)in the concluding chapter of the story. There is an electric guitar solo that is just ridiculously amazing that it’ll make your heart race, after this solo, the song’s tempo picks up and so does the vocal performance This song, its vocals, and the lyrics will linger on within you even after it ends
The song that ends the EP is called “Jesus’ Tears”. The intro of this song is very very exciting and will get you curious about the rest of the song. In the song, After expressing his beliefs, our antihero receives harsh punishment. In his delusional state of lunacy, the unnamed antihero experiences a Christ-like crucifixion (“they nailed me to the cross, next to Jesus Christ”) He then swears to exact revenge on those he believes are to blame for his suffering. (“but my spirit will take revenge”). Musically, the vocal performance lets listeners feel the wrath of the antihero as he pays for voicing out his beliefs and opinions. This song also has a guitar solo that is so unique and exquisitely beautiful and this wonderful song concludes this EP
Wow, Coma Beach is redefining this genre of music, reclaiming it, and redefining it in the most amazing way. I became a fan of Coma Beach after listening to their other EP and I thought they could not surprise me anymore. I was completely wrong!!. They surprised me and have elevated their game. Indeed there is no way but up for this amazing and talented band
