UNEARTH THE MUSICAL MASTERPIECE “MIND PARTY” BY MYOPIA

No Comments News

Greetings dearest gentle readers and music lovers, help me give Myopia a warm welcome to our blog. They were formed in 2017 by drummer Elliot Hawkins and guitarist Oliie Edgington, who was only 15 years old at the time. The rock duo Myopia is constantly changing and draws inspiration from bands like Bring Me The Horizon, Metallica, Radiohead, and Muse. They published their first, highly charged debut album, “Living on Sixes,” in 2020, and went on to deliver success after hit after smash. On 31st August, the band released a 14-song album called “Mind Party”. Let’s talk about the album in greater detail

The album’s first song is “The World Is So Loud. The first track on the album is a piano-based piece and opens with these gorgeous piano sounds. The song is about a tough time in the world which began in mid-2022 in an inebriated depressive state of mind(“I’m shouting and screaming “). The song served as an outlet for the confusion that was overwhelming at the time and stood as a rare moment in which the writing of the song flowed directly from emotions, rather than being filtered through an analytical approach to crafting songs. The drum sounds compliment the vocal performance, mouth percussions, and the piano, creating a perfect melody track stands as one of the band’s most cherished memories (most especially to Ollie)of beginning a track, and became the perfect piece to open this album”.

Next is the song “Mad Song”. The song with a heavy and layered fusion of guitar and drum beats. Written during lockdown, it’s about anger, rage, and learning more about growing and Understanding that you don’t just turn into an adult. Feeling out of place like an adult who doesn’t know what they are doing. Like, you’re upset about something, struggling to deal with something, and you look around the room at a lot of adults feeling like a child. Fundamentally, it talks about the delicate balance of fitting in as a citizen who contributes to the workplace and being someone who’s a little chaotic and doesn’t quite fit in anywhere. The song has a very exciting and fast-paced instrumentation that will captivate you

“Angel System” is the next song on the album. The song starts with very peppy and lively guitar strums. This song is personal to the band because the guitarist Oliie, made a song put together during an incredibly positive period of his life. It’s about the concept of manifestation, (“manifestation of the things that I want”)and meditating on the idea of creating the perfect you(“taking control of my mind”). This song is slower and calmer in the beginning but before you realize the song ups the tempo and you find yourself grooving along to the song, especially during the guitar solo

Next is the song “Hibiscus”. The song opens with very precise and glacial piano notes that are very compelling. The song is Thought-provoking and very different from anything else the band had and they didn’t know where it was going to fit. A lot more commercial with dance elements, but a cynical (” do you recognize, I’m crying in the smile behind”)philosophical undertone. It also discusses the theme of fear. The piano and drum solo was very captivating. The band can rest assured because this song is in a perfect place and actually breathes new life into the album

The song up next is titled “Stardust”. This song gets right into the vocal performance as the band sings about narcissistic parenthood and the obvious effect it has on the child, being that the child themselves has nobody to look up to and knows nothing except the experience they have with their parents. This experience can involve overbearing pressure coming from a parent’s own failures in life, rather than the required attention to the child’s own need to learn what they want to do with their life themselves and make mistakes. The song talks about the complexities of parenthood. The vocal performance is demure and well-arranged (guitar and drum solo!) giving you a one-way ticket to a euphoric place

Next is the song “Luck”. According to band member Elliot it’s an absolute monster!, and is probably his favorite to play live. The intro just encompasses the meaning and the feel of Mind Party and I just have to say that the guitar work on this song is absolutely powerful, It’s a powerful start to a song that’s constantly evolving, and it’s one of the tracks we hope immediately engages and excites the crowd whenever we play it live. It’s a rock song about living life fully and taking risks (”I’m living on the edge”)but it’s also got that dance-pop underbelly to get everyone tapping or bouncing along from the start, and hopefully all the way to the end which you can’t help but dance to it and succumb to its charms

“Gamophobia” is the song up next. Structurally, you will recognize the intro because of its intoxicating nature. On the surface, it talks about a fear of commitment, but the song isn’t about the lyrics, it’s about the chaos of the instrumentation which is actually very harmonious if you listen closely. The song is a statement, It’s confusing, with chaos in the periphery and weird moments. It’s actually partly inspired by ‘Here Comes The Sun’ by The Beatles which you will notice right from the start. They really made the Beatles proud with this song

The next song is called “Call Of The Void”. The song opens with an explosive guitar intro before the vocals set in. The band made the song for their friends who are into indie, soul, dream pop, and shoegaze. The song is about the feeling you get sometimes that seems to pull you towards doing something terrible, like swerving into oncoming traffic or jumping over a ledge even though you know that you don’t want to, it reflects the dark thoughts that plague the human mind now and then and also intrusive thoughts that no one else can see or hear. It’s dark and the chorus is powerful, but it’s more instrumental experimentation which really paid off in the most exciting way

Next is the song “What are we?”. The opening of the song is very vibrant. This track was by far the most complicated for the band to play as a three-piece, every part of it is hard for us. It began as an experiment around odd chords on the piano, influenced by one of my tutors at college at the time, Ollie recounts. Through their tireless dedication, This song ended up becoming a piece of music representing rage and aggression between a mother and daughter in a flawed relationship. The energy is something they just enjoy making and they want to share it, play it, and put that energy for listeners. Because of how they pushed themselves this song is the deepest album track with an emotive piano part, a space for mental progression, and transitions mixed into a heavy middle section back to the verse. With an open chord sequence, that’s been likened to Queen

“My Human” is the song that follows. This song slows down the album for a bit This track came about because of a game Ollie was playing at the time called Exo One. The music in the game stuck with him and that same style that can be heard throughout the track. The lyrics read almost poetically and the writing process for it was scary and exciting. It’s a sort of poem with an existential sense to it

“This Is Really Nice” is the next song on the album. The opens with choral and ethereal sounds that are very beautiful. The song is a personal experience of one of the band members. It was the first time Ollie had met his now partner and his brain was erupting with excitement and fear and all else. The thought of sharing the space with somebody who could make the bad days just a little better (”I need you”), (”this is nice”)

The theme of the song is supposed to be about the feeling of contentedness that comes with those thoughts and experiences, and enjoying that feeling rather than worrying about whether it will end. The song is emotive and so is the instrumentation and vocal performance which will delight you

“At the Mercy of the Universe”. This song has a very heavenly piano and bass guitar sound that is so operatic. The persona in the song is having an existential crisis and is thinking about the feeling of being stranded in space, and trying to comprehend the distance and size of the spaces between stars and other bodies of matter. The song asks listeners what they would do if they were to be suspended in the deep void, in front of a black hole that they are slowly accelerating towards, with nothing else around for millions of light years, how would that feel, and what would matter to you in that moment. The song is incredibly profound and has a certain unexplainable charm

Next is the song “Mind Party”. This song opens with a short guitar strum and dives right into the vocal performance. The title track for this album is a short piece almost as an intro to the final track. The lyrics of this track are odd, (”I’m throwing a party in my mind”)but they feel connected to the band as though they are how the band feels, and that they represent the band’s brain when writing this album.

The lady song on the album is called “Movements”. The song has a short intro and then the vocal performance starts This is yet another personal story from the band and the song and its lyrics were his outlet for when he went through his first breakup and stood as he came around to accepting the situation, while still feeling the pain of it. (” When you burn in hell I hope you burn right”). The song took a lot of time to make and it is the love child of the band

This band has paved the way for a brand new era of dynamic sounds and aesthetics, and did so in their second studio album “Mind Party”. We learn a lot about the duo because most if not all of their song especially on this album are pulled from personal experiences The band writes music from a place of unfiltered emotion and are perfectionists when it comes to making music and are their own biggest critics. The band is extremely talented and in hopes of connecting more with fans, pulls music from their own experiences. This sets them apart and they will conquer the music world, just wait and see
