Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell are rapidly making waves in the rom-com genre. One of the most talked-about films of the year is already their upcoming R-rated movie Anyone But You, and fans can’t wait to see how they light up the screen. Finally, after much waiting (and even more conjecture), we get to see Anyone But You for the first time.
Sony’s Anyone But You is a modern, and perhaps very loose, retelling of William Shakespeare’s comedy Much Ado About Nothing. Co-written and directed by Will Gluck (Easy A, Friends With Benefits), the film tells the tale of Bea (Sydney Sweeney) and Ben (Glen Powell), in a classic enemies-to-lovers trope.
“When college arch-nemeses reunite years after graduation for a destination wedding, they pretend to be a couple for their own personal reasons. But through pretending, they actually fall in love.
Maybe we should just tell everyone we are together,” Sweeney’s Bea tells an incredulous Ben in the trailer as the two share a not-so-romantic boat ride together. “There’s no way we can convince anyone that we actually like each other,” Powell’s Ben later proclaims. And the rest, as they say, is history.
Originally scheduled to open on December 15, 2023, the same day as Timothée Chalamet’s musical precursor Wonka, was Anyone But You. Deadline reports that Sony has rescheduled the film’s exclusive worldwide theatrical release for December 22, 2023. This makes it ideal for a romantic evening or a holiday weekend matinee with your closest friends.
