No Comments Review

Greetings dearest gentle readers and music lovers, let’s welcome the Swedish band Smoke Spider. Smoke Spider consists of producer and multi-instrumentalist Johan Granat (Cloud Catchers, Alias Smith & Jones) and singer Göran Florström (Marionet, Generous Maria). Smoke Spider was born in 2021 after a (re)union. Since then, they have released a number of outstanding singles that combine their trademark Smoke Spideresque groove and melodic talent, culminating in the latest album “Voodoo Spell,” which is full of incantations. The ten-song album was released on 25th October, let’s talk more about the album

“Under a Curse” is the first song on the record. The song starts with a powerhouse of explosive instrumentation which has a little bit of everything. The song illustrates a character who is under a curse. He then warns an outsider that if he or she stays, they will meet the same fate (“I’m a man but I’m under a curse”). This curse might be a mystical curse or just a group of oppressed people, either way, this character is suffering. You might think that Rock songs aren’t profound but this song shuts down this prejudice. The instrumentation is very vibrant (guitar, mouth percussions, and drum solo)and so is the vocal performance. This song was a perfect opener for the album!

Next up is the song “nervous”. The song has a very funky bass line before the electric guitar and drums set in. The song talks about a character who feels dejected (there isn’t anything else I’m living for”). The guitar work on this song is jaw-dropping. It is so so good and it will thrill you so so much

“The Biggest Love” is the song that is up next. The song is a country rock song that is about. This song is about a character who has found his forever person. He lets her know how he feels about her(“Your love is all I need and that is true”). This character sees his love with his forever person as the biggest love he’s ever known or felt. The song is a very beautiful song that will just make you fall in love with it because of the vocal performance, mouth percussion, and arrangement of instruments (electric guitar solo)

Up next is the song “Spider Eyes”. This song starts with very upbeat mouth percussion and instrumental. The electric guitar in this song was so stunning!!!! The vocal performance is very crisp and flawless

Next up is the song “Desolation- remastered”. The song has a beautiful guitar intro. The song is about a character who has left a place and assures the people there that he is not going to come back (“I don’t think I’ll be back”). The vocal performance is very exciting and so are the instruments in the song(guitar solo toward the end)

Next is “supersonic life”. This is yet another upbeat song which is evident in the intro. In the song, the character in the song is telling his partner to get ready because life with him is very bold and vivacious (“so hold on tight don’t let the bed bugs bite”). The song has a very catchy beat(electric guitar solo) and lyrics that are easy to follow

Next up is the song “Evil Eye”. This song is so much more upbeat and energetic than the previous song. The song illustrates a character is convinced people that he could tell anyone who saw him with an evil eye. As usual, the instrumentation makes the performance electric. This song sounds so amazing when performed live

“East Berlin – remastered” is the next song which opens with soft and church-like melodies that sound so heavenly, but before you know it it’s shifted into a heavy rock song. The song is an exciting one that will take listeners on one crazy ride, especially when it comes to the electric guitar solo

Next up is “linger in my memory- remastered”. The song begins with a cool sound but yet again picks up in tempo. The song talks about a character who is confronting his now ex-partner telling her that she made a mark in his life and even got a place in his head and later left him to pick up the broken pieces of their eel (“Disappear just walked away”). Musically, the song was an exciting and captivating vocal performance and it matched the vibe of the song

The last song on the album is called “the damage is done”. The intro of the song is in the same vein as most of the songs on the album. In a tender way, the vocal performance talks about a character who has tried everything to mend a broken relationship and has given up (“I damage is done, the pieces fall one by one”). This song closes the album with a bang!

This album was painstakingly created to make the fans happy and rock along with the band. There is no song on this album you would like to skip because all of them are amazingly good. The vocal performances were just top-tier and beautiful and let’s not forget the electric guitar sounds! They were so glamorous, intricate, and awesome. The band has delivered the best and I can’t wait to hear more music from them
