Greetings dearest gentle readers lets welcome UK artist Shaun Lewis. Lewis is a brilliant songwriter who just started releasing his music. Lewis is releasing his songs in three different EPs. On 23rd August he released the sophomore EP, titled “SL EP-2”. Let’s talk more about this 4 song EP
The first track on the EP Is “Holding Up the World”. Right when the song starts you are engulfed in strong and vibrant instrumentation. The song is about living in the moment, taking risks, and being the best you can be(”live for today”). It is also about reaching out and lending a helping hand (” We are together, holding up the world”). This is such a hype song to get you psyched about anything. The vocal performance and the instrumentation(electric guitar solo) make up this badass song. The song tells you the direction the EP is going to take
Next up is the song “Dillinger”. The intro is a very captivating bass, feedback noise and drum beat all at once which will catch your attention no matter what you’re doing in that moment. As the song suggests, a Dillinger is a robber or murderer. The persona describes himself to be Dillinger and stands up to oppressors(” I’ll be your public enemy”). Aside from the vocals, the highlight of this song is the electric guitar solo. The song is very energetic and passionate. This song will take you along on a fantastic musical ride and I guarantee you personally that you will keep playing it over and over as I did
Next is a song called “She Was on the Stairs”. Bright electric guitar sound greets you but wait, what follows is an irresistible drum beat. Can we give a moment to this drum sequence? I know I did. The song uses the stairs as a metaphor for a broken relationship where the man talks about her behavior in the relationship too(”she was on the stairs and I know because I was there”)Also, In the song, the persona finds himself in a one-sided relationship and is now fed up(”why should I care”). Although he’s angry and hurt, he still believes that she has a heart and is not made of stone(”you pretend that you don’t care but you do”). The song is fun, and preppy and I know I’ve already complimented the drumming but I’m mentioning it again because mid-song there is a mini drum solo followed by an amazing guitar solo that will leave you pleasantly stunned!
The last song on the EP is “Girl (2024 acoustic demo)”. This song sounds stripped-down song right from the start. The song is a heartfelt letter from the song’s character to his lover. In the letter, he tells her how important she is to him and how he misses her. (” It’s been a long while since I made you mine, all my life I’ve been waiting for you girl”). The character begins to ask her what he did wrong that made her leave. The song is very emotive and tender. The nature of the song makes Lewis’ voice really shine through and the song ends in a majestic flourish. This beautiful song brings the EP to an end
Lewis has shown his talent and lyrical prowess in this EP. I believe that since this is the second installation in his three-part EP system the first one was very very good and since this one blew my mind I won’t be surprised if the third one exceeds my expectations. Lewis is a talented artist and I can’t wait to hear more music from him
