No Comments News

Greetings dearest readers and music lovers let’s give a warm welcome Annie J. On her sophomore EP, ‘BEEN LOVING YOU,’ released on October 18. The Seattle-based retro-soul / modern-pop artist’s new 7-song EP blends her skillful songwriting and brilliant vocals seamlessly for a sound that is truly her own. Let’s dive into the details of the EP

The first song on the EP is called “Your Power”. The opening of the song is a cascade of beautiful sounds before we are thrown into the powerful ocean of Annie’s powerful voice. The song describes a character who has a particular set of skills(” it’s your power”). It seems that this individual does not know the skill set he has and is being told about it. Annie’s voice is just something that will make you feel like you want her to be singing the soundtrack of your life. This song paves the way for the rest of the songs and it is absolutely gorgeous

“Makin’ Bacon” is the song that’s up next. The song’s opening has different harmonies and it is mesmerizing. The song is about a character who is busy making money. The word bacon is an alias of money. The melody of this song is wild and unpredictable except for the guitar solo which was just amazing

“Interlude” comes next. The start of the song seems like chatter in the background and piano sounds. There are some incredible flute sounds that class up the song

“Around the Block” is the song that is up next. The song opens with Annie’s lovely voice. The song is about a character who has fallen for someone and watches his every move, hoping that she might bump into him (” You know that I adore you”). We see a different side of Annie’s incredible voice. It is soft and tender and takes you on a very enjoyable music trip that is unbelievably good

The next song is called “I Can’t Solve It”. This song features Kate Dinsmore. The song is about a character who is at a crossroads and doesn’t know what to do next (”I can’t solve it no no no”). Annie’s beautiful harmonies with Kate are something to behold. These two artists added a rich texture and tapestry to this song

Next up is “Gotta give it up”. The intro of the song is very thrilling because of the mouth persuasions. In the song, the character has fallen for a guy whom she knows is bad for her (”I’ve fallen for you again”). The song gives this 80’s disco vibes and it will make you feel like jumping up and dancing uncontrollably

The last song on this EP is titled “Blue Angel”. The song has a cool acoustic feel to it. The song is about a character who after a long time running around and running from problems (”always running somewhere”), she has finally found herself. This song about self-discovery was very emotive and Annie really hit those high falsetto notes with absolute ease and total perfection. This powerful and emotive song ends the EP and the feeling you get while listening lasts long after the song ends.

Annie used music as a medium of self-expression and you can certainly feel that emotion passion and release in each song I’m so glad we get to be a part of this beautiful piece of musical genius. She’s a star and I can’t wait to hear more from her
