Richard Curtis, the writer-director of “Love Actually,” has penned a new holiday comedy, but this time the magic of the season is real. Nov. 22, Peacock premiere: “Genie” follows Melissa McCarthy’s Flora, the title character, as she helps a dejected Bernard (Paapa Essiedu). The two learn how the power of love may unleash a unique holiday magic through their unexpected friendship.

Bernard needs a genie for many reasons—he missed his daughter’s birthday, his wife left him, and he got sacked. Fortunately for him, he finds a jewellery box by accident and releases the genie Flora, who grants wishes without end. Because of a mistake with a sorcerer in 77 B.C., Flora has been imprisoned in that box for more than 2,000 years. Bernard starts to show her the world she has been missing. Meanwhile, Bernard and Flora set out to accomplish that exact aim in time for Christmas .

Sam Boyd, director of “Love Life,” directed Curtis’ screenplay, which is based on his teleplay “Bernard and the Genie,” which he wrote in 1991. Alan Cumming, Denée Benton, Marc Maron, Jordyn McIntosh, Tate Ellington, LaChanze, and Luis Guzmán are among the other actors who appear in “Genie.” Tim Bevan, Eric Fellner, Riva Marker, and Richard Curtis produced the film, which is distributed by Universal and Working Title. The film’s executive producers were McCarthy, Caroline Jaczko, Alexandra Loewy, Sarah-Jane Robinson, Nicole King, and Stacy O’Neil
