Greetings dearest gentle readers and music fans let’s welcome the Italian band Mardi Gras. This band released an eight-song album on 11 November called “Sandcastle”. This album illustrates two siblings and their difficult 1980s Jersey City life. It’s a tale of selfishness, bullying, and blood ties. They had to investigate one of the primary characters’ darker sides. They then decided on eight chapters and began writing the lyrics and music, branching out into new musical genres with a lot of guitars and strings. Let’s get into the details of the album
The opening song is called “The Dance of the Sand”. The song begins with slow piano and guitar instrumentation. With dramatic melodies, the song is about a character who is confronting someone for not seeking her out. This song seems to be the opening story of the siblings who were mentioned at the beginning of this review. This song is the yellow brick road that the rest of the songs follow on
“Cinematic” is the title of the next song. The song is energetic right from the start. This is a very rock-themed song. The song is about a character who feels like he or she is a superstar. This song is very foot-tapping and will have you up on your feet dancing to the groove. This song will be a great song to listen to live
“Lia’s Theme” is the next song. This song has a beautiful melody that starts the song. The character Lia, who this song is about asks her brother to speak to her (“speak to me”). This phrase doesn’t mean that her brother doesn’t speak to her at all but that he no longer tells her important stuff or stuff important to him and to her and that she feels lonely and he is distant. This song is emotive and the vocal performance nails this song’s message and the instrumentation is a perfect fit
Next up is “after the fire”. This song is a slow but charming song. This song strips back another layer of this character’s relationship with her brother. She tries to tell him that he’s the one who helps her move on when something bad happens to her(“You resurrect me/ after the fire”). This song is very emotive and delightful because of it’s instrumentation and vocal performance
Up next is the song “Cross the Line”. This song opens with a soft and gentle guitar melody. The song is about a character who is telling someone that he can call her anytime he needs her but sometimes he crosses the line. She tells him that she’s there for him but there are boundaries. This is yet another powerful song with a solid and unflinching musical structure
“Stop the presses” is the song that is up next. This song had sharp and dramatic instruments at the beginning with an exciting beat. The character in the world wants to be in charge and be the leader and be so powerful that she could make a decree to stop the presses and the presses will stop with no hesitation. The instrumentation works double time to make this song a commanding presence and an intimidating aura
Next up is the song” Wake Up”. This song has a glacial and soft melody at the start. This song has a charm like a song “Everyone Wants to Rule the World”. In this song, the character the character demands that people wake up and take over the world (“You have to change the world, tear it down”). The song might be slow but make no mistake thinking that it’s boring. It’s a charged song and you will indeed wake up just as the song commands you to do and tear the world down to build a world you like. This song is beautiful and sonically charged to entertain you
The last song on the album is “Don’t Touch the Sinner”. This song has a tender and majestic intro. This operatic song is a mystical song in which there is a sinner that the character demands listeners not to touch and this person supposedly knows all her secrets. This song is very mysterious and it closes the song beautifully with its operatic and rock song
This album is a beautiful song based on a sibling relationship that has many drawbacks. The songs were sophisticated and interesting, there was not a song I wanted to skip and I had a good time listening to this record. I implore you to go on this sonic adventure and you’ll never regret it. The band has made something exceptional and they will go far in the music industry
