Keke Palmer offered him “a lot of chances” in the past, a source tells PEOPLE, as she was just granted a temporary restraining order against ex-boyfriend Darius Jackson.

The actress, 30, and Jackson, 29, have an 8-month-old boy named Leodis. Earlier this week, the actress filed for a domestic violence restraining order against Jackson and requested custody of their child. Jackson was granted interim primary physical and legal custody of the child.

Palmer alleged in Thursday’s California Superior Court filing, which had a declaration attached, that on Nov. 5, “Darius trespassed into my home without my knowledge or consent, threatened me, then physically attacked me — lunging for my neck, striking me, throwing me over the couch, and stealing my phone when I told him I was going to call the police.

The filing alleged that there were “many instances of physical violence, including striking and grabbing me around the neck, descriptions of Darius destroying my personal property, including diaries and prescription eyeglasses, throwing my belongings into the street, throwing my car keys to prevent me from driving away, hitting me in front of our son, spewing profanities about me to our son, threatening to kill himself with a gun if I left him, harassment, and other physical and emotional abuse.”

Palmer and her ex-boyfriend, who welcomed their son in February, have experienced public problems in their relationship recently. Jackson publicly chastised the actress in July for watching Usher perform at his Las Vegas residency while she was dressed in a sheer dress and a tight black bodysuit.
