Greetings to all my readers out there and music fans. We welcome Josh Jensen to our digital space.” This Is Where We Landed’ is the third solo album by Seattle, Washington-based Josh Jensen. This eleven-song record, released on 7th March, was produced and engineered by the gifted Luke Rain. The album demonstrates the close musical bond that Rain and Jensen have developed over almost 20 years. The album, which was recorded in 2024 through late studio sessions, includes a variety of guest artists, including Shauna Ward on guitar and vocals, Matthew O’Toole on mandolin and bass, Sunnie Larsen on violin, and Alex Capron and Evan Earhart on horns. Let’s talk about these songs
The first song is called “Birdhouse” and it features Matthew O’Toole, Alex Capron, and Evan Earhart. The song begins with such beautiful stringed instruments. Around 2005, while he was in Bellingham watching the sunrise, he wrote a poem that served as the inspiration for this song. The story came to life when he put that poem to music, and he couldn’t wait to get some pals in the studio and make this into a true jam. The song also talks about heartbreak and the instrumentation???, just a chef’s kiss all around. What a wonderful way to open up the song
“The Circus is in Town” is the next song. The song features Alex Capron. The intro gives the song some jazz vibes. The original Circus is in Town emoji was a personalized monkey holding a flame. Although the song’s origin is humorous, the lyrics convey a more sinister message. This message is a way to figure out what the circus animals will do with they are free. This is also a social commentary about what an abused person or animal does when they are set free
“Dusty Roads and Broken Dreams” is the next song. The song features Sunnie Larsen. The song opens with a country-like beat. The song is a Bonnie and Clyde’s situation. After committing a crime the character and her lover go on the run, leaving their lives behind. This song bled country music and it was a good song
The fourth song is called “Colorado” and it features Sunnie Larsen. The song opens with these gorgeous stringed instruments that will carry you from the ground till you’re soaring on the wings of the song up in the air
The fifth song is called “Across the Sky’. The song opens with dreamy and tender guitar sounds. The song talks about how we need to be a team in relationships. You help the person carry your burden and baggage and they do the same for you. This song shares a sentiment that is so beautiful and the song structure is flawless
“Lost in the Sound” is the next song on the album. The song opens with country blues instrumentation. This song encourages listeners to love intentionally because it’s the little things we do for people that let them know that you care. The guitar and vocal performance were just stunningly beautiful
Next up is the song “City Lights” which features Shauna Ward. The song has a guitar opening with clap-like sounds in the background. The song describes the inevitability of life and how we must live life to the fullest. The bass guitar gave this song a little kick that will delight listeners. The vocal performance was the bomb and the guitar solo was the star of the show
Next up is “Wanderlust Highway”. The song features the artist Alex Capron. The intro was beautiful and the song describes a character who is trying to move forward and the person he leaves behind assures her that she is still in his mind.
The next song is named “Hello, hysteria “. The song features Alex Capron. The song is about a character who faces his problem head-on by naming and confronting these feelings. This song has a killer combination of great vocals and instrumentation that complement
“Colorado (guitar-only version)” is the next song. The song is something special. There is no amount of words I can say about the song. There is nothing quite like a song that has no words but still speaks to you so profoundly. Listen to this song and understand how I feel
The last song on the album is called “The Circus Is in Town ( if I Look Strong, You Look Strong”). The song is the same song with the same lyrics but with a twist on it. It was exciting and it ended the album perfectly
Inspired by Jensen’s own experiences, especially his wife’s fight with breast cancer, “This Is Where We Landed,” explores moving themes of love, family, wandering, and death. This Americana album, which features nine original compositions and a remix, is notable for its influences, which range from The Band to Lianne La Havas. Jensen has churned his pain into art. He is very talented and I can’t wait to hear more music from him
