Greetings dearest avid readers and music lovers, let’s welcome WORLDVIEW to our blog. Oliver Shaw, a songwriter, performer, and producer from Oxford, UK, goes by the stage name Worldview. He combines rock, pop, dance, and folk with perceptive lyrics and a general musical sensibility. With contingency and impermanence as a recurrent theme, the new album “Everything Is Temporary” was released on 17th January and explores themes of loss, nostalgia, altered times, and the whims of success. From Moogs to musical boxes, Telecasters to Theremins, vocoders to violins, ukuleles to uilleann pipes, these eleven tracks offer a melodious, varied blend of rock, pop, and folk. Let’s dive into these songs
The title song of the album is “Can’t come back from That”. The song opens with a pulsing piano and drum beat. The song is about a character who has accepted that he is from a situation where he can’t recover from. Sometimes in life, we make certain mistakes or treat people in a certain way because we can never erase the past. This character has accepted it and that’s the first step into maybe making things right. The vocal performance is beautiful and the instrumentation is just out of the world beautiful. This song paves the way for the rest of the songs on the record
“Chance is Gone (gatsby)” is the next song on the record. The song’s intro has this kind of 80s pop vibe to it. The song illustrates the fact that sometimes we get only one chance to do something and then it’s gone forever. (“Chance is gone”). As to how it pertains to Gatsby, like Gatsby who lost his chance to pursue Daisy Buchanan, this character has also lost a vital opportunity. Musically, the song has a great melody and arrangement of sounds to boot. This song was very very delightful
Up next is “We walk among you”. The song opens with a beautiful piano melody. The song talks about people who get stranded in a particular place. The character talks about the inner demons of these stranded people. You see, to the natives, these people seem alright but they don’t know the type of people living among them. They don’t know them at all. The piano sound complements the vocal performance and creates a very interesting tale to be entertained by good music as well
“In the shop” is the next song on the record. Bright ukulele and drum beat introduce this song. The song is very upbeat and the female backing vocals are very stunning. There is a violin and drum beat that is really spectacular and listeners will love it
Up next is the song “The Exceptions”. The song opens with a synth sound. The song talks about a group of exceptions to a particular rule or place. The finger-snapping sounds gave it this black-and-white 40s Italian mobster, singing. The song is truly exceptional and you will fall in love with it as o did
“An incantation” is the next song on the album. The song has a dramatic and ethereal vibe right from the start. There are two ways you can interpret this song, the first illustrates a couple where the man is asking for forgiveness and because he keeps repeating it, he calls it an incantation Because incantations are repetitions of words. Now the second one is an individual who is begging for forgiveness and redemption from a higher being. This vein is called being religious or just to a person who holds your fate in his or her hands, like a judge. (“ I’m sorry, I’m sorry, so sorry, this is an incantation, a call for redemption”). The structure of the song and the melody are gorgeous and will take listeners on an interesting musical journey
Up next is the song “This House”. The song opens with heavenly sounds before the electric guitar and drum set in. This song is about the aftermath of a breakup. This relationship ran deeper than just dating, the people involved were bonded deeply and made a home together, now this place which was filled with happiness and loving memories has become a reminder of the fact that the relationship has ended . (“This house was once a home but is now a cold museum”). The song has a profound meaning and the guitar work on this is just magical and the vocal performance is very poetic
“Artifacts and heirlooms” is the song. The song opens with an exciting drum beat. The song describes how artifacts and heirlooms evoke nostalgia. These items represent a time that has passed. For instance, finding a picture or a necklace that once belonged to someone you have lost just makes you laugh because you have changed so much since that photograph was taken. The guitar sound is dreamy and beautiful. The vocals are also clear and crisp. All in all, you will enjoy this flawless performance
“A Force of Nature” is the next song on the album. The song opens with operatic piano sounds. The song describes a very tough person. This person was not tough because of life but was born that way. The stringed instruments and the piano sounds came together to generate a heavenly melody and the piano solo. Oh, it was just amazing and my ears just melted when I heard it to completion. This experience is something I would recommend because it was so amazing
“Simpler Times” is the next song on this record. The intro of this song is very exciting. The character is yearning for the times in his life when everything was cool and breezy(“Take me back to 95”). Sometimes we wish to go back in time but the truth is that it’s good to dream but it is also good to move forward in life. The vocal performance is extremely perfect and the arrangement of the instruments is excellent
The last song on the album is called “Here Until You’re Not”. The intro of the song is uniquely beautiful. The song encourages listeners to. Live their life to the fullest because we all have an expiration date. Death is inevitable, the life we get every day is a gift so, we have to take every opportunity that comes our way every day. This song has yet a fantastic sound and vocal performance. This lovely song brings the album to an end
This artist has made a legendary collection of music. Aside from the vast array of instrumentation, the vocal performance on every single song was flawless and I was speechless. This album is proof that WORLDVIEW is a very talented artist. He is on his way to stardom and I can’t wait for his next release
