Hello and welcome back dearest readers and fellow music lovers alike today were shining a light on lēv the single from the upcoming EP, “Autumn Songs” by Swedish singer-songwriter JACOBOOM. In lēv, he touches on themes of fear, isolation, and the longing for connection. Themes that run through all of the songs and, for me, are connected with autumn. The vocals are backed by an indie-folktronica soundscape of a plucking ukulele but also synths and big choirs. The song was released on 17th November and although it talks about some help with heavy issues it is an excellent sonic ride. Let’s get into it, shall we?
“Lev begins with this dreamy and mystical ukulele sound that puts you in this peaceful trance and mentally prepares you for the rest of the song. Jacoboom sings sadly about fear and being alone in this beautiful song and it just transports you into his world to fully understand what he’s conveying through the song
Lyrically he goes straight to the point with hard-hitting yet simple lyrics like “ Mother I’m so scared “, “ the coldness in the air”, “ u think I’m getting numb” and “Father I’m so scared” further cement the message Jacoboom is trying to talk about. He also talks about loneliness and fears. The lyrics are straightforward and the genius lyricism coupled with the ethereal harmonizing and Jacoboom’s soothing vocals give you chills because by the end of the song you fully feel the numbness, fear, and emptiness the song is talking about
Production-wise, the song is quite a marvel, Jacoboom’s performance is intertwined with Big choirs, synths, and a plucking ukulele to create an indie-folktronica backdrop that supports the song. The arrangement of the song is perfect for the message contained within it
To conclude, “Lev” by Jacoboom is a great piece. Not many songs tackle negative feelings these days and he managed to do that in a very beautiful way that will appeal to everyone. The production and Vocals make the entire song a success and worth listening to. I can’t wait to see what he puts out next
