Greetings dearest gentle readers and music fans let’s welcome the band Pork Pie to our blog. The Irish band consists of Shane Brett on drums, Michael Laverty on bass, Michael Stafford on vocals, who does lyrics, keyboards, guitar, and alto sax, and Peter Laverty on lead guitar. Together, they have performed at numerous festivals and prestigious music venues across Europe. On 6th September, the band released a 10-song album called “Golden Leaf Sheets”. This album makes use of classic garage rock/blues song features with something extra to soften the hard blows of the instrumentation. The sound transports listeners to a bygone era when dance music and guitar music coexisted harmoniously. The mix of throbbing bass, melancholy organ, huge psychedelic guitar, and amazing funky drumming design makes the dance floor come alive. Let’s talk more about the album
The album’s title track is called “City Lights”. The intro of this song is a very energetic guitar riff so good you know you’re in for a very good time. The song talks about a citizen who has been in the dark for a long time and the light has fallen on him or her and he or she in a way that will be better than the first(“city lights, bring on the fire that will change our ways”). The song is extremely wild and exciting. The instrumentation (guitar solo)is out of the world fantastic. With this song you know the tone of the album
Next up is the song “helplessly waiting”. The guitar and drum intro was spectacularly beautiful and vibrant. The song introduces listeners to a character who is still hurting after a breakup. This character laments about how even though it’s over between him and his ex-lover and even though she has moved on, he still misses her and finds his way back to her, almost like how sometimes we do something unconsciously like muscle memory(”hopelessly waiting, recklessly hating of the things that remind me of you, still, in my dreams now I slip down and trip round into the night that takes me to you”). This song will resonate with listeners since we all have had this person we loved but still can’t shake that person. The vocal performance went hand in hand with the instrumentation and I can say with all confidence that it will delight you
Next is the song “Careful as you go”. Now this song has a thrilling drum intro before the guitar sets in. In the song are two characters. The first character seems to be telling the other character to be careful or in a mocking way. The first character mocks the other character for seeing something that no one sees. Instead of helping out the other character he or she feeds into the latter’s paranoia (” So hey, Ho careful as you go now, looking over your shoulder, what the hell are you looking for, who can you see well, it’s not me”). The song is fast-paced and so is the instrumentation. There is an electric guitar solo mid-song and toward the end of the song that will leave you speechless and breathless
“Raven” is the title of the next song. The intro of this song is a little slower than the previous song. The main theme of this song is the importance of perception(” Perception plays a really big part of your trance”). The vocal performance is passionate and has undeniable charm. There Is a powerful electric guitar solo and brief mouth percussion. This song will be so exciting to hear live because it makes you want to jump up and down, it doesn’t even matter to you if you’re jumping without rhythm, you Just let the music move you
“I want everything” is the title of the next song. The intro of this mad exciting and hooks you right there and then. In the song, the persona has found a kindred spirit. Another person who wants everything out of life (”you love to sing and you want everything”). The song may resonate with listeners because we all have met or know people who share the same interests and ambitions and it creates an unbreakable bond between you two. This foot-tapping track has a mouth-gaping electric guitar solo and you admit that this can only come from a rock god, and the guitar is an extension of the player. This song is great to rock or head bang to
Next is a song called “outta my mind”. The intro of this song is so incredible it Feels like a fish who has taken the bait and is Hooked to the fishing rod with no means of escape. The electric guitar slips in and out of the song and it is very captivating however, the drum stays the same throughout the song and is what you hear last before the song ends. There are no vocals on this song but you will be tuned into the song throughout the performance which is another feat this song has achieved
“Hold on Child” is the next song. The song is yet another rock-infused song. The song talks about a parent who is refusing to let his or her child grow up. This is something a lot of parents struggle with. The song is yet another bop that you can blast whenever you’re feeling down and it will lift your spirits. The song gives another award-winning performance that will thrill you sonically
“Into the Skies” is the next song. The song opens with instrumentation that is legendary. The persona in the song sings about the beautiful things he sees in the skies. The song is an interesting song and the electric guitar solo was the crown jewel of the song. This song is another one that would be incredible when performed live and I’m sure people who attend the concert will be as delighted as I was when I listened to this song.
The next song is the album’s namesake “Golden Leaf Sheets”. This song starts with a delicate guitar sound with bass in the background giving it a dramatic flair. The song sounds eerie and mystical which was pronounced verse by verse. The mouth percussionist gave the song a heavenly presence and the electric guitar solo will take listeners back to the rock aspect of the song
The last song on the album is called “Cabin Fever”. This song has a synth-rock vibe right when the song begins. The drum takes the forefront of the song till the electric guitar solo sets in. This solo is all you will be talking about long after this song has ended. You would want everyone you know to feel the rush you experienced when you listened to it. The album started with a bang and also ended that way
This album encourages your rock and roll side to come out and play. I fell in love with the band’s style of making music and I ended up playing the album over and over again. This album is so good that you won’t skip a single song. The band is very talented and I can’t wait to hear more from them
