Listening to FIREBUG’s music is always a delight, not only because of their boundless charisma, but also because of the way they manage to transport us through numerous eras in their own wonderful way. This band, which is currently headquartered in Joshua Tree, California, was included in our Top 100 Songs 2021 with their single “Run,” and will almost certainly be included in our Top 100 Songs 2022.
“No Return” begins as a ballad and progresses to an anthemic rock track. The track is soft and nostalgic, preparing us for a voyage through the past, present, and future. Juliette Tworsey’s vocals are beautiful and wonderful, and her interpretation is once again comparable to the one and only Janis Joplin.
“No Return,” heavily influenced by music from the 1960s and 1970s, sounds like it might have been played during Woodstock ’69. Jules Shapiro’s guitar playing blends the old and the new, his emotional licks and current melodies colliding with grit, style, and passion. Not to mention Joseph Noval’s bass playing and Matt Lucich’s drumbeat; without them, the song would lack a lot of strength and promise. “No Return,” which ends on a high note and with amazing energy, might soon become one of the best songs of 2022.
In the fall of 2021, they recorded and mixed their full-length new album, which contains “No Return,” which will be released in Spring 2022, at The Clocktower Recorders in Joshua Tree, California. Charlie Stavish engineered it, and The Two Jays produced it (Jules Shapiro and Juliette Tworsey). Randy Merrill at Sterling Sound Nashville mastered the track. You won’t want to miss it in the spring of 2022.
