Greetings dearest readers and music fans. Let’s welcome Eddie Witz and the most high back to our blog. Eddie Witz is the leader of The Most High, a band of devoted musicians who play music aimed at bringing healing, harmony, and hope to people. This US band has made its mark on me because I have had the honor of listening to two songs they made called “In California” and “Jamaica Time”. These songs had the exclusive power to transport listeners to see in the mind’s eye what the band was talking about. On 12th June, the band released a 7-song album titled “I am what I am”. Let’s dive into the details of this album
The album’s title track is called “My Island”. This song is the folk version of the original “My Island” song. The song opens with very chilled and relaxing guitar sounds before the vocal performance starts. The song is about a persona extending an invite to a very stressed out person to a getaway place (” Let me take you to my island”)It includes blended relaxed beats, catchy hooks, and reflective lyrics (” Take a step back and you wonder how’d we ever come this far”)that perfectly encapsulated the soulful quality of pop, rock, and reggae music(”a breathtaking guitar solo”) to take listeners to a tropical paradise. This song welcomes listeners to the album in a very cheerful manner
The next song is called “Jamaica Time”. Now this song is one I’m familiar with and it is an amazing song.. The song opens with bright and beautiful guitar strums and exciting xylophone sounds. The song is about giving someone who is married to his or her work a chance to experience life, relax, have fun, and let loose(”but I found an alternative”),(”I came to escape all that madness, I’m on Jamaica time!”). This song demonstrates Witz’s talent for creating upbeat, airy tunes and fluid orchestration.
Up next is the song “In California”. This is also a song I’m familiar with and I can’t wait to share with you how good the song is. The song begins with airy piano and guitar sounds. This song describes a form of long-distance relationship where one part of the couple lived in California (” You wanted to be free, couldn’t stop you, hope you find what you’re looking for”). The song is a moving song that examines the highs and lows of the band’s own state and perfectly captures the bittersweet spirit of self-discovery against the backdrop of the Golden State’s attraction. The vocal performance is the perfect balance of passion and beauty and will thrill you sonically
Next is the namesake of the album “I Am What I Am”. The song has a lovely and fascinating intro. The song is about a persona who is warning another persona that he is trouble personified and even though he’s in love, he can’t change who or what he is (” This is how I like to play, I what I am if you like trouble, I love you I do”). The song’s message is about owning who we are, consequences be damned. The instrumentation is very fascinating and will have you grooving along before you know it
Next is the song called “The one who got away”. This song pivots the album towards a country-infused soft guitar sonic direction. In the song, the character is pouring out his heart to a past lover, telling her that he wished things had never ended between them and he needs her to hear him when he says he could have or should have loved her right but instead he fumbled really badly(”you could be the one I left behind, you’re the only chaos in my mind, if I could only find the words to make you understand me when I say you’re the one that got away”). The message in the song is very heartwarming and relatable because all of us look back on our past relationships and wish things were different. The vocal performance is very tender and so sweet and it will captivate you throughout the song
“In Too Deep is the title of the next song”. The song’s intro is very tender yet captivating. Written to examine themes of fortitude and personal development, (” sometimes the past is all it takes to move or change”) the song authentically conveys the feelings Witz felt when enduring the lowest points in life.” I’m in too deep, I can’t sleep, I’m in over my head without you”) The song’s lyrics depict Witz’s quest for self-awareness and healing as he wrestles with the agony of his past traumas and the difficulties of accepting, forgiving, and being grateful. His deepest feelings and thoughts are expressed cathartically by the melancholic melodies and expressive vocals. As “In Too Deep” reminds us, we have the chance to develop, learn, and eventually come out stronger than we ever could have been via our trials and tribulations. (”find our way back home again”). I applaud Witz for sharing his story to make people who have endured this know that they are not alone
The last song on the album is called” My Island”. This song is the Reggae version of the original song. The message of the song remains the same. The instrumentation of this song brings the reggae parts of the original song that seemed subdued to the forefront. The way this song has morphed into a complete reggae song shows the talent and creativity of the band. This amazing song brings the album to an amazing end
The melodies and lyrics of this album aim to bring comfort, inspiration, and happiness to listeners, and it was the hope of the band that it would act as a soundtrack for listeners’ journeys of self-discovery and personal development. The group’s goal is to write songs that have a deep emotional impact on listeners and achieve this goal to the latter. I enjoy this band because of the awesome intentionality behind the songs. They are incredibly talented and will go very far because of their music
