Matt McClure, an indie rock singer-songwriter, just released his highly anticipated fifth studio album, “You Are Like The Moon To Me”, on April 14. The 12-song album delves into themes of aging, lost identity, existential reflection, and the emotional turmoil of simply being human, all set to a diverse blend of sounds ranging from dance beats to stripped-back acoustics. Let’s talk more about this album
The first song on the album is called “Coughers”. The intro of this song is a very nice and explosive drum and guitar beat. The song is about a character who is at loggerheads with someone and it looks like they won’t be speaking anytime soon (“We won’t speak again”). The story turns positive when the character decides that certain mistakes he made in his friendship, he won’t make anymore. He decides that he will make certain changes in his friendship. The vocal performance and the instrumentation were upbeat and absolutely terrific, a perfect way to open up the album
The next song is titled “That Coach Is Lying”. The song has a very catchy intro. The song seems to tell a story about some kind of children’s sports game and their coach. The story in the song is quite interesting and the instrumentation was very lively and so pleasant. This song was another hit song on this album
Next up is the song “Former Farmer”. The song has yet another upbeat intro that is very foot-tapping. This song is very upbeat and interesting. There is an instrumental solo which was so incredibly fun and nice to groove to
“Solving for Siblings” is the next song. The intro is yet another captivating and catchy intro. The song is about a person who is dealing with heavy family issues. The vocal performance is very clear and flawless. Listeners will get a kick out of this fantastic song
“Yarn Collective” is the next song. The song opens with soft dreamy guitar strums that are so beautiful. The song encourages listeners that they will overcome their tough and difficult times (“ we will overcome”). The vocal performance was passionate and the song’s message really resonated with listeners and evoked completely deep emotions
Next up is “eastern outs”. With this song, the album returns to its upbeat vein. This song is very foot-tapping and makes you just dance and unwind. The guitar solo was fantastic and it compliments the song in the perfect way
The next song on the record is “Solid Stares”. The song opens with this unique melody and when the drums kick in? boy oh boy, you’re in for such a good time. The song talks about how to be careful yet to trust some people especially if they come through for you(“you came through in the end”). The song also teaches a lot of good behaviors like being a good host and being kind. There is a guitar solo that goes so hard in this song, ending it in a nice flourish
“Rangraw” is the title of the next song. This is one of the songs you can have so much fun with. The instrumentation is colorful and vibrant. This song will make you feel like you’re at a party in the 50s doing the jive and just shimmying your way onto the dance floor
Up next is called “bull country”. The song opens with this very fascinating arrangement of instruments. Wanna jump up and Down? This is your song. Aside from the fact that the song is a danceable tune, it talks about how you feel better when you keep to yourself often. The guitar solo in this song was just something so riddle and amazing. The song closes out with a funky beat
“Mayo” is the song that follows on the record. The intro and the running beat in this song have synth pop and synth rock sounds. The song talks about a character who ends up with a particular person at the end whether he likes it or not, because, they were made for each other. The guitar solo in this song was also very powerful
“Distant Dogs” is the next song on the record. This song is also another bop with a very captivating intro. The song does a very good job of creating a very fun atmosphere for listeners to kick back have a drink or have a dance. I absolutely loved this song
The last song on the album is called “in minor rooms. The intro of this song is a much more softer, sweet, intricate, and beautiful guitar melody.
