Greetings dearest gentle readers let’s welcome French artist manava left. An up-and-coming jazz vocalist named Manava Lery published her debut record of 14 songs “Blowing Changes.” This enthralling album was released on 28th April and skilfully blends bossa nova, smooth jazz, classic swing, and the vibrant rhythms of Charleston, taking listeners on a musical trip through a diverse tapestry of jazz traditions. Let’s talk more about this album
The album’s first song is “I’m not drunk”. When the song starts you’re greeted with an assortment of instruments. The song is about a character who is convincing people around her that she’s not drunk but just intoxicated by the music around her. Now I agree with this character because this kind of music like this song moves your body without you even allowing yourself to and you can’t sit still. Lery sounds so beautiful singing with her French accent is just jaw-dropping. To top it all off is a nice solo where all the instruments shine(flute, sax), etc. This song was a great opener
“I wanna dance the Charleston” is the next song. Now this song is an arrangement that makes you want to dance the Charleston. Lery talks about the ladies who dance the Charleston. I’ve seen this dance on the dance reality show, dancing with the stars. It is a complex dance because of how fast-paced the song is but Lery is right because you will find yourself twirling and swirling and swaying. After all, the music will call out to you. Now during the instrumental solo, you will be dancing or attempting to because this song is just amazing
“Put the Blame on Mame” is the next song on the album. This song has a slow intro. This song has a chill vibe and leans deep into the jazz side of the song. Lery sounds so stunning in this song as she tells the boys to put the blame on her. The solo in this song will make you want to live in that moment forever because it’s so beautiful
The next song is called “Peach Bubble Tea”. The song has a dramatic intro that you wi really love. Lery sings about a character who is assuring her lover that she has eyes only for him. The instrumentation is just super invigorating and listeners will love this love story. The solo was another one for the books
“Butterfly on her shoulder” is the next song. With this song, the album slows down a little. The song illustrates an incredibly beautiful woman who has a butterfly on her shoulder because she’s drop-dead beautiful. The instrumentation is very beautiful and makes you feel like you’re in a lounge, sipping on a cool drink and taking in good jazz music
“Sur ma peau fa sol la si do” is the next song. This song has an array of instruments that surround you in the beginning. Listeners hear another side of Lery’s voice as she sings in her native tongue. She sounds effortlessly majestic and her voice is silky smooth. Though this song has hints of mambo-like sounds it’s pure jazz complete with a saxophone solo that was an unexpected surprise
Up next is the song “walking by herself”. The song opens with a nice trumpet sound. Lery sings about a character who was walking by herself but didn’t look like she needed company. This song is a feminist anthem sung for the independent ladies out there. There was a nice sax and piano solo that was so stunning
Up next is “My son likes to fish”. This song is very beautiful right from the beginning. The song describes a character who apparently loves fish and loves fishing and swimming. It’s a fun little story that you will find yourself listening to more than once because of the allure of the vocals and instrumentation
Up next is the song “Chinese Food”. This song has a relaxed vibe. With this dirty, we met a couple who were trying to figure out what to eat. Finally, they settled on pizza but later, he changed his mind and decided to order Chinese food. I love that this song and its lyrics are fun and light-hearted even though it has expert instrumentation
Up next is a song called “The Peasant”. This song opens with very cool sax sounds. Lery gives an outstanding performance, as usual, bringing light and love to the lyrics. The saxophone solo is a fun little treat for listeners to enjoy thoroughly
“C’est quelque chose” is the next song on the record. The song opens with operatic piano notes. This song is another French song. Lery gives a magnificent vocal performance that is so captivating and immersive, taking listeners on a special sonic journey that will be unforgettable
“Trust me baby-sax version” is the next song on the album. This song is sultry and sexy and talks about a character who is trying to get her lover into the mood to have relations with her. Lery sings with a sexy drawl that will excite and thrill you very very well. So sit back, relax turn the lights low, and have fun with the song
Up next is “je voudrais savoir -sax version”. This song opens with dramatic saxophone sounds that are glacial and operatic. The song takes you back to imagining that you’ve gotten the chance to go to a speakeasy to listen to music, maybe slow dance and have a cold drink
The last song on the album is called “How to Deal with Heartbreak”. In this song, very teaches listeners how to get over a heartbreak. So according to her, you need to scat out your pain. You might think it’s silly but that is exactly the point of this remedy, to say something silly or funny to distract you from the pain of your broken relationship. You can’t scat without cracking out a smile. I applaud Lery for sharing this remedy I’m going to pass on and you should do the same. This unbelievably beautiful song is the curtain call for this album
This was one enjoyable album that I wish I had come across long ago but I’m glad I’m hearing this now. There was not a single song that I skipped and because Lery was so comfortable in her skin, she lowered your guard and brought you along to have fun with her. This album was a gold standard album and I can’t wait to hear more music from her
