The one-man project Me & Melancholy, which explores the realm of electronic music with an emphasis on sad, synth-based sounds, was created by musician and producer Peter Ehrling. Me & Melancholy, a Stockholm, Sweden-based artist released an eleven-song album called “Open Your Eyes”. Let’s talk more about this record
The first song on the album is titled “Open Your Eyes”. This song goes hard right from the start. The song is about a character who seems to be in the dark about a situation(“I can show you the truth”). This person is being offered the chance to really see the truth. The vocal performance was a big hit and the instrumentation blew me away. From this song alone you can tell how good the rest of the songs are going to be
The next song on this album is “Don’t Leave Me Here in the Dark”. This song opens with a dark and pulsating synth beat. The character in the song tells us how his life was before he met his person. He asks this person to be with him and to not abandon him. This song is simple to follow and the sounds and vocal performance were just so perfect
Up next is “naive”. This song is very exciting from the start. The song talks about a naive person who doesn’t have a clue about the feelings of another person. The song is very foot tapping and you will fall in love with this particular song
“In the blink of an eye” is the next song on the bill. In this song, we see this sad story unfold as the character in the song loses someone dear to him(“I never got to say goodbye”). This person left without a goodbye and before he could bat his eyelashes, this person was gone. The song also talks about allowing yourself to feel sad because sometimes the only way is through the pain and to forgive ourselves. This song was very profound and entertaining
Up next is the song “You’re on your own”. This song has a very soothing melody as soon as it starts. The song illustrates a broken relationship where one party decides that they have had enough. This person is quick to tell this person that they will continue to be alone like they used to be. The despair of this character is fully embodied by the song
“A Quiet Place in the Dark” is the next song. The intro of this song is so different, unlike anything I’ve ever heard. The character in the song is going through the mourning stage of a broken relationship (“You’re the one who let me down”). The character asked for time alone to process his feelings. The structure of the song is flawless and it will touch you deeply
“Are you still here?” is the song that follows. The intro of the song is very upbeat and captivating. The song is about a character who is waiting for his love interest to come to him. The vocals on this song are insanely good And the beat is thumping listeners will enjoy this ride
Up next is “One Last Kiss”. The song opens with these exciting synth-pop sounds. The character in the song asks for one kiss before he and his lover die. This song reminds me of Rose and Jackie because he also asked for one kiss before he froze to death
“Big Lie” is the song that is up next. The song has a fun vibe right From the beginning. This retro pop sound song is about a character who has caught someone in a lie. The character confronts this person and lets him know that he’s a liar.. the song is catchy and very foot-tapping
“There is a Whisper in the Wind” is the next song on the record. The song has this steampunk cyberpunk sound. The song has these eerie sounds that make the song more dramatic and give the message in the song (death)more gravitas
The last song is called “Cold Down to the Bone”. The intro is these unique synth sounds. In this song, we meet a character who describes how he feels when his partner is not around. The sweet story in the song and the instrumentation might be opposite but it is nice to see that love songs have diversified and fits into every genre. This song was the perfect farewell to listeners
Every Me & Melancholy release has a nostalgically cheerful and reflective vibe because of this distinctive fusion of vintage and modern sounds. Each song had personality and charm. The album touched on various genres and it basically gave listeners a taste of good music. Me and Melancholy has made an amazing collection of songs that will uplift and entertain listeners. This artist is brilliant and I can’t wait to hear more music from him
