With Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget, Aardman is making a comeback to one of their most recognisable properties after more than 20 years of anticipation. After making a successful escape from Tweedy Farms in the first film, Ginger and Rocky live a tranquil life on a secret island with their chicken friends in the animated sequel. However, when their daughter runs away, they must return to the outside world.

With the departure of Julia Sawalha and Mel Gibson from the cast of Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget, Thandiwe Newton and Zachary Levi have assumed their roles. The remaining cast members are a mix of new and returning actors, including Bella Ramsey, Romesh Ranganathan, David Bradley, Daniel Mays, Imelda Staunton, Nick Mohammed, and Miranda Richardson. Under the direction of Sam Fell from Flushed Away, the follow-up aims to reverse the main premise of the first film, turning it into a heist thriller rather than a war escape drama.

Constructing the Fun-Land Farms escalator that leads to “Chicken Heaven,” where they are truly transformed into nuggets, was one of the production’s special challenges. Matt Bay, the supervising art director, gave us an up-close look at the real operating escalator, complete with the different “trackers” and gears that had to be shot on real plates and then blended in with VFX to match the stop-motion animation
