Greetings dearest gentle readers and music fans everywhere, Let’s give a warm welcome to US duo Blueprint Tokyo. Blueprint Tokyo is made up of Kevin Dawson and Andrew Hale. Both Kevin Dawson and Andrew Hale’s passion for melody and texture, along with their roots in post-punk, emo, and classic rock, results in catchy songs, ethereal sounds, and unexpectedly upbeat lyrics. On 28th August, the band released a five-song EP called “Blue”. Let’s talk more about the EP
The EP’s first song is called “Odysseus”. The song opens with a very ethereal sound that surrounds you instantly. The song describes a static relationship where nothing changes(”never win, we’ll never change”). It also shows how one of them feels broken and torn The song has very nice mouth percussions and an electric guitar solo that will leave you stunned about how amazing it is and wonder where this amazing song has been all your life. This brilliant song opens the door to this EP
Next is the song “Only Hearts” The song opens with slow guitar strings that are incredibly beautiful. The song is about a relationship where one person feels he is not loved and asks his partner to at least say once that she loves him(”I need to hear you say, I love you”) and asks that she says it before she dies(”love me, love me, love me before you die”). The song is very moving, and relatable because we have all needed this assurance from our partners and so compelling that you will be in awe of such a beautiful piece of music unlike anything you’ve ever seen
“Closed Door Drama” is the song that follows. This song’s opening is a beautiful guitar and piano melody that is very intoxicating. The song is about a man who worked hard to change his mom’s life but he worked so hard and spent very little time with her and unfortunately, she died(”who thought he would work hard and help her out, she died and I cried”). The song tells listeners to spend as much time as they can with their loved ones instead of concentrating solely on work. You can feel the despair of the character’s loss through the vocal performance and the instrumentation was splendid creating a beautiful soundscape
Next is the song “Mission Control”. This song has a lively drum beat at the very beginning. The song introduces listeners to two characters, the first character is one who has decided never to give up(”you’re never giving in, I heard you say so”) and the latter has given up hope because life has kicked him around(”no matter what I give, life is harder than it should be”). The latter character also realizes that he needs a little hope in his life so he calls out for help(”mission control, I know I need hope”). The drum beat is the forefront instrument and a guitar solo is thrown in the mix, along with the mouth percussions and vocal performance thus creating an all-round exciting sonic experience
The last song on the EP is called “Transfer”. The song has a short but unforgettable intro. The song describes a character who feels lost in every way possible (” Hey I don’t know where to go, help save my life, give me, give me hope”). The instrumentation is nothing short of clear perfection. This song was the perfect and reasonable way to end the EP
This EP was an interesting and exciting experience. Every song had soul and purpose and every song had the perfect instrumentation. The duo is very talented and I’m so fortunate to have experienced the duo’s music that I can boldly say I’m never going back
