Victoria Loren Kelly is an American singer-songwriter who was born on December 14, 1992. She first came to light as a youngster posting videos on YouTube. In 2010, she advanced to Hollywood Week on the ninth season of American Idol. After that, in 2012, she independently published Handmade Songs, her self-produced debut EP.

EARLY LIFE AND EDUCATION

Wildomar is the birthplace of Victoria Loren Kelly. Her mother Laura is of German and Irish background, while her father Allwyn is of Afro-Jamaican and Puerto Rican descent.Her sibling is called Noah. Her folks introduced her to a wide range of musical genres when she was growing up. Asked about her upbringing, she responded, “I give them a lot of credit for just playing all different genres, and no genre was off limits.”  Despite not seeing herself as a member of the Christian music scene, faith is an influence on her songwriting.Vocalist Tiffany Evans, who emerged victorious in the junior singer division, defeated Kelly in the Star Search competition.

CAREER

She tried a different approach to her music, learning how to play the guitar, writing original songs, and recording them herself on her computer, even though she didn’t make it to the top 24 on American Idol. When Tori started uploading her performances to YouTube, she soon surpassed one million subscribers.

Kelly’s song “Fill a Heart” was released in February 2013 as part of the ConAgra Foods and Feeding America “Child Hunger Ends Here” campaign. The Wanted, a British boy band, later played the song on Dancing With the Stars. During her “Fill a Heart” tour, which began in April 2013, Kelly worked during the day at the food banks in the eight towns she visited.

In October 2014, Pentatonix released their album That’s Christmas to Me, which included a medley of “Winter Wonderland” and “Don’t Worry Be Happy” with Kelly. Tori Kelly was listed as one of MTV’s Artists To Watch on December 1, 2014. Two of her tracks, “Funny” and “Dear No One,” which are available on her Artist To Watch profile, were performed in private for MTV.For several weeks, MTV aired her “Funny” performance.

Kelly opened for Soundgarden on May 7, 2017, at the Beale Street Music Festival in Memphis, Tennessee. This would be one of the band’s last shows before leader Chris Cornell took his own life on May 17.With Kelly as the featured artist, Kelly and rapper Lecrae released the track “I’ll Find You” on June 9. On July 28, 2017, the corresponding music video was made available. In front of a pitch-black backdrop, Kelly and Lecrae sing alongside a number of patients from St. Jude Hospital. It reached its highest position at No. 1 on the Hot Christian Songs list, No. 11 on the Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop chart, and No. 17 on the Billboard Bubbling Under Hot 100 chart.

Kelly’s rendition of Drake’s “Time Flies” was made available as the first single off her EP Solitude on July 22, 2020. As the second single, Kelly released “Unbothered” on August 11, three days before to the EP’s release. On August 14, Kelly’s album Solitude was released. Among its four original songs are those she recorded while confined during the coronavirus outbreak.

After joining Epic Records on March 14, 2023, Kelly dropped her new single “Missin’ U” on March 17. This song serves as the first single for Kelly’s future album. Craig David’s 2000 single “Fill Me In” is sampled in the song.As Tori entered her new musical phase, the sound of R&B/Hip-Hop from the 1990s and mid-2000s served as her inspiration. Tori says she “wanted to go back in time” with songs like “Missin’ U” and singers like Destiny’s Child, Aaliyah, Missy Elliot, and TLC.
