Rapper Alyssa Michelle Stephens, better known by her stage names Latto or Big Latto (formerly Mulatto), was born in the United States on December 22, 1998. She defied the record deal that was presented to her after winning the first season of Jermaine Dupri’s reality television series The Rap Game in 2016. At the time, she went as Miss Mulatto.

EARLY LIFE AND EDUCATION

On December 22, 1998, Alyssa Michelle Stephens was born in Columbus, Ohio, to Misti Pitts and Shayne Stephens . She was a student at Clayton County, Georgia’s Lovejoy High School. She says that her street credibility came from Clayton County. Her biological father is African American, while her mother is Caucasian.After experiencing bullying at school due to her “light-skinned” appearance, Stephens decided to call herself Miss Mulatto when she started rapping, a reference to the “mulatto” racial classification.Stephens started penning her own rap tracks at the age of eleven after deciding to pursue a career in rap. She used to drag race before she started performing music.

CAREER

2016 saw Stephens participate in the Jermaine Dupri and Queen Latifah-produced reality series The Rap Game on Lifetime. Over the course of eight weeks, the boot camp-style series pitted young, aspiring rappers against one another. Latto was the competition’s overall winner, going under the stage name “Miss Mulatto” at the time. Dupri offered her a recording contract with So So Def Records, but she ultimately declined the offer, saying the money was insufficient, and instead to pursue her career as an independent musician.

Sept. 24 saw the release of the lead song from Latto’s then-upcoming “Big Energy” second studio album.(26] With a peak position of number three on the Billboard Hot 100, the song became Latto’s highest charting single. The official remix was released in March 2022 and featured American vocalist Mariah Carey. On November 5, the follow-up single “Soufside” was made available.On March 9, 2022, Latto declared that her upcoming song “Wheelie” would be out on March 11 and revealed that fellow Atlanta rapper 21 Savage would be featured in it.Latto’s second studio album, 777, was released on March 25 and featured all three tracks. She released the song “Pussy” on July 15.Latto appeared on the song “For the Night” by Chloe Bailey.

Latto received a Grammy Award nomination in February 2023 for Best New Artist.On February 17, she made the single “Lottery” available.The debut solo single “Seven” by South Korean singer Jungkook featured Latto as a featured artist in July.It was her first song to debut at the top of the Billboard Hot 100, where it peaked at number one
