Greetings to all my dearest readers and music fans let’s welcome the US band La Need Machine. The band consists of Al Dams on guitars and vocals. Lead vocalists: Elise Dahlberg, Brian Hassler, Dawn Madsen, Sebastian, and Bear Davis, as producer. The band’s new album, “Pourquoi? C’est L’Amour!, a ten-song record, released on 8th April, combines groovy and genuine emotional components, into a more cohesive whole, giving the album a hopeful, pleasant, and uplifting vibe. Let’s talk more about the record
The first track on the album is titled “Our Song”. The song opens with ethereal mouth percussion and a lovely melody. The song is about a couple who have a song that marks a significant part of their relationship or a song that they both love. They seem to have requested the song or requested to sing it themselves(” Sing our song, and we danced all night long”). Either way, they share more fun moments with this song of theirs. The vocal performance was very beautiful and the adlibs were so stunning. This song just exudes positivity and love, which is a good way to start the album
The second song is called “I Wish I Could Fly”. This song opens with a country-infused guitar melody. So for some context, there is an Australian series called “The Bureau of Magical Things”. In this series, some teenagers find a place full of magical artifacts. The character in the song wishes he was a magical object or a magical being. (” Bureau of Magical Things, I wish I could fly”). This song is lighthearted and very foot-tapping. The vocal performance was literal perfection and you wouldn’t it any other way
Next up is “over the rainbow”. This beautiful opens with this orchestral and ethereal sound. At first glance, the title of the song looked very familiar, like the song beloved icon Judy Garland sang in the original Wizard of Oz movie from 1939 and I was not mistaken. The song is a cover of the famed song. I must say in all honesty, that this cover really took me back to when I first watched this movie as a child. The vocals and instrumentation were beyond perfect. The band really captured Miss Garland’s essence and the comfort and calm that the original song brought to listeners. This song was very nostalgic and a perfect trip back to a simpler time, an iconic movie, and an iconic soundtrack. Kudos to the band for this amazing song, miss Garland would have really loved this rendition!!
“The Mountain” is the title of the next song. The song has an upbeat and lively intro. Through the song’s lyrics, listeners meet a character who is letting his lover know how high and how far he is willing to go for her. He tells her he’s ready to climb the highest mountain and swim the widest ocean, as long as it’s for her (” As long we are together, I’ll climb the highest mountain, I’ll do it all for you”). This is such a beautiful declaration of love. The song has very upbeat and fun instrumentation as it tells the story, of true love
Up next is the track “Maria”. This song also begins with a beautiful classical sound till the beat drops. The character in the song was conscious about making friends till he met a lovely girl named Maria. Just through the vocals, you can discern how much Maria meant to this unarmed character. He tells listeners how hard he fell for her (”I want to hold your hand, Maria, I want to kiss your lips”). The song was so sweet and endearing and I can admit that I would have liked to meet Maria because she seems like such a wonderful person
“Vincent van Gogh” is the next song on the album. The song opens with a very soft and beautiful guitar melody. The song illustrates a character who is encouraging listeners that no matter how bad things get, we can still recover and start anew (” You still got time my friend”). This was a very important message that the band shared with us and we appreciate them for this message and for the song
Next up is the song “These Old Jeans”. This song has an upbeat intro but still maintains that ethereal feel. In the song, the character talks about his pair of old jeans but it’s so much more than that, the old jeans, remind him of how things have changed around him. For instance, people who had come and gone in his life, changes in occupation, religion etc, etc. The main theme is just that nothing is constant and change is inevitable. Musically, we get an amazing sound, filled with foot-tapping instrumentation and a killer vocal performance
“Sardonic Love” is the next song on the album. This song opens with a very nice stringed melody. The song chastises a character who is tired of his partner’s indifference about everything(”how much indifference to allow”). He lets her know, that he is tired of running after her and will not chase her anymore. This song talks about the complexities of romantic relationships. The vocal performance does well to let listeners know the exasperation the character feels through the pacing of the instruments and the vocal performance
“The Hometown Heroes” is the second to last song. This song has a nice piano melody that is very stunning. This song explains love in a very interesting way, it explains one’s lover, as a superhero, a person who fights all the pain and evil in your life(”I’m the one who makes it right, I stop the pain when you cry”). This is a very interesting simile because when you really think about it, it’s true, that our partners, lovers, significant others, etc etc become sort of our protectors, our emotional heroes of sorts. The lyrics make the song very exciting and interesting. All in all, this is a beautiful song, with beautiful instrumentation that listeners will be delighted by
The last song on this record is “Over the Rainbow (pop version)”. This song is the poo version of the band’s rendition of the iconic Judy Garland song. This fun and lively song ends the album with a bang!!!
This album highlights the band’s brilliant songwriting abilities and ardent musical talent. La Need Machine distinguishes itself by combining soaring harmonies, smart lyrics, and catchy rhythms to drive the band’s distinctive sound. They are very talented and I can’t wait to hear more music from them
