Greetings dearest gentle readers and music lovers. Let’s welcome German artist Cris Cap to our blog. Cris Cap returns to his fans and new listeners with an incredibly gripping new EP “Gone Too Soon,” which will be released on April 25, This heartbreaking EP explores the grief of loss, inspired by the unexpected death of a close friend of his 17-year-old daughter. The song, rooted in deep R&B history, is both an homage and a source of consolation for those dealing with bereavement. Let’s talk more about the EP
The title track is the namesake of the EP “Gone too soon”. Loss is universal, but when it strikes the young, it seems even more unfathomable. “Gone Too Soon” reflects this sadness while also providing a ray of optimism. “It’s about pain, but also about holding on to the light of those we’ve lost,” Cris Cap reflects. Even though they’re no longer with us, their presence lingers in our hearts and memories and this song celebrates them and serves as a reminder of their lives. Musically, “Gone Too Soon” follows in the footsteps of classic R&B ballads. The song, written on Cris Cap’s favorite Fender Rhodes piano, exemplifies his unique blend of warmth and soul. “He was privileged to collaborate with Tyla Raé, one of his favorite vocalists. His voice carries the music to the heights and brings more emotional depth to the song. This emotive song opens the EP
The next song on the EP is “Young Gun”. The song opens with this country-infused sound and soul-infused melody. In the song, we meet this character who is talking about how fear held him back when he was younger, especially when it came to relationships (“I was afraid to speak up, fear held me back so I stayed alone”). The song provides a glimmer of hope though, this character seems to have outgrown his fear and is living freely and fearlessly(”I’m not hiding, no”) and has decided to put himself out there, taking a chance on love, and yes it might hurt, but he recognized how it would be worth it, especially when you find your person. Musically, listeners hear the piano and guitar melodies quite clearly. The song is catchy, clear, and simple to follow. The vocal performance was crisp and clean, making this song another hit on the EP.
The last song on the EP is called “Live Like My Cat”. This song has synth sounds filtered throughout the intro. The lyrics of the song tell listeners about the persona in the song who wishes he could switch places with his cat, look cute, give and receive love, and do nothing all day (”oh what a dream, love so much, oh much, wish I could switch”). Musically, the song has a soft but captivating aura. You can tap your foot to it because it’s heartwarming and lighthearted. This song was very fascinating and quite beautiful and it ends the album spectacularly
Cap has made a very spectacular EP. Not only did he dedicate a song to his daughter’s friend who once filled their house with laughter and music, but he also made two more songs that are profound yet entertaining. I know that this person who lost his or her life, is smiling down at Cap for the song and the EP, may his gentle soul forever rest in peace. “Gone Too Soon” conveys a tone that is both peaceful and deeply moving and Cap should be very proud of this collection of songs. He is very talented and I can’t wait to hear more music from him
