Greetings dearest gentle readers and music fans, let’s welcome Joy and the wildfire. Joy and the Wildfire is a compelling rock band from New York, NY, with lead vocalist and songwriter Samantha Joy Pearlman, Jared Decker on drums, Sean Decker on bass, and Meghan Doyle on guitar. The band’s synergy and uniqueness are evident in their 12-song debut album, “Aftershocks,” which was published on February 14. Today we will focus on the songs the band chose to be at the helm of, let’s get started
The first song on the album is called “Aftershocks”. The song opens with a nice fusion of instrumentation. In the song, the world the infrastructure is in disrepair. The split that seemed like the world was shifting beneath our feet served as the inspiration for the song. (“I lost you in the aftershocks”). The lyrics are not questionable because, according to research, whenever there’s a natural disaster, the aftershocks, kill more people because of the debris that is around. This song opens up the album powerfully
The “Assistant “ is a song that reminds me of a movie called Prestige, which was a battle between two magicians. In the movie, the two main characters were friends but he tied the knot on the magician’s assistant too tight, and unable to untie herself she died. The next person they hired was very abusive like the character in the song. Musically, listeners are in for a treat with this song
The meaning of “wildfire” is similar to that of the “assistant”. The song imagines the inner monologue of an abusive magician’s assistant. It’s also a middle finger to the patriarchy and the notion that women are supposed to be submissive
The millennial anthem, “Shouldn’t I Be Older,” opens with a lovely guitar strum and it will excite you. It is dedicated to all those who long to mature. The song tells us to have nostalgia but how eventually we will mature and whether will it happen quickly.
The song “Lessons” opens with a slow beat and a choir-like keyboard sound. It is a technique to deal with a broken relationship while sobbing on the tube. SJP was inspired by the feelings she experienced when she discovered her ex-boyfriend’s new partner on social networking. The stringed instruments class up the song immensely and the vocals translate her emotions to the listeners
“Consequence of Time” is the next song. The opens with an incredible drum beat. This is another breakup song. The character in the song noticed her relationship was crumbling and she was tired of fixing it so she broke up with him but now she misses her ex and wishes to be with him. The vocal performance was just breathtaking and drop-dead gorgeous
This song is for anyone who has experienced that specific kind of heartbreak.
Most important, is the song “Zachary. The song opens with a soft guitar sound. The song was inspired by a classmate who is no longer with them. Losing people near and dead to us is very difficult and this is why the band deserves a standing ovation for immortalizing their friend Zachary. The song was heartfelt and very emotive and listeners will fall in love with it. Rest in peace, Zachary
The rest of the songs are also worth mentioning because they were also amazing because the band poured a lot of love
Joy and the Wildfire has a new sound that appeals to fans of diverse backgrounds, with influences ranging from Paramore to Talking Heads. They stand out in the music industry thanks to their unique blend of passionate lyrics, energetic instrumentals, and contagious enthusiasm.
